- Family University (All Alumni Families), February 11
Family University is an event for MMS families to learn and grow together. Sessions include financial planning, improving parent-child relationships, and college preparation. Students can earn community service hours if they attend Family University. Call or email Robyn Browning at extension 23 or rbrowning@mms-stl.org to confirm your attendance.

- FAFSA Senior Financial Aid Day, February 18
Financial Aid Day is an event for MMS Class of 2008 families to receive assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We strongly urge parents of students who will be the first in the family to attend college to come to Financial Aid Day.

- Private School Financial Aid Applications Due March 31
Returning private school families are required to complete the high school financial aid application to be eligible to receive scholarship funds from MMS. Please complete the forms by March 31st and mail a copy to MMS.

- All graduates who receive a scholarship award from MMS are required to complete 9 hours of community service by May 31, 2012.
Upon completion of community service, turn in the Community Service Form to Ms. Browning. Failure to complete community service will result in non-payment of the 4th quarter scholarship award.
- The minimum number of hours required to work at
MMS is 1 hour.
- The maximum number of hours required to work at
MMS is 3 hours.
- A combination of hours worked at MMS and a nonprofit agency must total 9 hours.

Rising Stars Program:
February 25th from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM for the special movie presentation of Roots.
Future dates: March 10, April 14, and May
12.
The Rising Stars program meets on the second Saturday of the month. All high school students are expected to participate in this program. The program will include career exploration, time management, financial management, healthy relationships, managing emotions, and effective communication. Students in other college readiness programs (Upward Bound, College Bound, Bridge, etc.) are exempt, but must provide a letter from the program director on official letterhead stating that the student is enrolled in the program.
Breakfast and lunch will be served.

ACT Test Prep & College Fairs
- ACT Spring Cram Sessions at MMS (Juniors and Seniors)
MMS will provide ACT cram sessions in preparation for upcoming ACT tests this spring. Sessions run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:00-9:00 PM and a student must be able to attend all three nights.
All junior students are expected to attend at least one set of cram sessions this spring.

MMS Graduate of the Month
Nominate yourself or a fellow grad* that is exemplifying a characteristic of a Marian girl: honesty, positive attitude, courteousness, perseverance, respect, responsibility, leadership, and service.
- Please email the nominee's name, characteristic(s) displayed, and write a 250 - 500 word statement on why the nominee deserves the award (specific instances in which you have seen the characteristic displayed)
- Winners will receive a gift card for their outstanding work and appear in the MMS e-newsletter.

Good News
Congratulations to the Classes of 2015, 2014, and 2013 for achieving a 3.0 grade point average or higher at the end of first semester! Students attending private schools will see a credit on their tuition statements in the next 2-3 weeks.

- College Bound (Freshmen) DEADLINE: February 29th
College Bound is a seven-year college preparation and success program. CB is committed to staying with the students from the beginning of their sophomore year of high school until they have a college diploma in their hands! Since College Bound was founded, 100% of their students have graduated from high school and enrolled in college, so they know the system inside and out! - You must demonstrate financial need to be eligible. Priority is given to students who…
• Will be first generation college students (meaning your parents don't have a Bachelor's degree)
• Have parents who were non-traditional students (meaning your parents went to college later in life)
• Have special circumstances
The program consists of the following components:
- MAKING THE GRADE
"Making the Grade" is a comprehensive academic enrichment program consisting of courses in math, language arts, weekly tutoring, AP study groups and skill-building workshops. The goal of Making the Grade is to give students the academic foundation to succeed in college level coursework at selective four-year institutions. Specifics of the program include:
• Weekly one-on-one tutoring sessions, AP study groups and in school small group tutoring
• Three-week summer institute in advanced mathematics and language arts
• Three-day math intensives over Spring Break
• One-week summer immersion and follow-up workshops on note-taking, organization, study skills and time management
• Workshops on essay writing and critical thinking
• Guidance on course selection to promote a rigorous college preparatory curriculum
• Consultation with family and teachers to create study plans and conduct ongoing check-ins
- CULTURE, CHARACTER, CAPACITY
"Culture, Character, Capacity" is a wrap-around program that provides students with exposure to cultural events, community service and an ongoing "bank account" of financial, social service and mentoring resources. The goal of the 3C's are to provide students with the cultural capital to succeed in diverse higher education settings, to experience the power of service to others, and to mitigate the effects of social, financial and psychological hardship that disrupt students on their path to college success. Specifics on this program include:
• Residential programs on character building, leadership and citizenship
• Community service with Habitat for Humanity and Food Outreach
• Paid, for-credit and volunteer internships in government and local businesses
• Workshops with community partners on subjects such as mediation, conflict resolution, body image, healthy relationships, goal setting and stress management
• Weekly field trips to a wide variety of events, i.e., plays, concerts, museum exhibitions, political rallies
• Referrals to housing, health, crisis and other social service agencies on as-needed basis
• Stipends to at-risk students on a case-by-case basis
- ADMISSION ACCOMPLISHED
"Admission Accomplished" is a college access program at the heart of which closely-knit cohort groups, theories of action that focus on college completion, guidance from professional counselors, a network of supportive relationships and tools to help students create high quality applications to four-year colleges. The goal of Admission Accomplished is to prepare students for selective colleges that closely match their interests, aptitude and financial resources. Specifics on this program include:
• Weekly classes on subjects ranging from college vocabulary, admission requirements and goal-setting to financial literacy, career exploration and personal learning styles
• ACT preparation courses taught by test professionals
• Personalized college guidance provided by professional college counselor
• Quarterly parent education sessions and family meetings
• One-on-one and small group workshops for electronic completion of financial aid forms
• College tours to visit a range of four-year higher education institutions in and out of state
• Workshops to help rising seniors apply to summer enrichment programs at colleges and universities
• Mentoring programs that match College Bound seniors with collegians
• Speaker series on degree-required professions, followed by job shadowing days
• A three-day residential college application workshop focusing on scholarship research, creating high quality college applications, activity profiles, personal statements and short answers
• On-going mentoring and process guidance
